The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is an English Language Test conducted by the ETS. It is accepted by 11,000 universities across 150 countries. This test checks a students’ proficiency in the areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students applying for all levels of programs – undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral are required to take a test like TOEFL.

Who should take the TOEFL?

Taking a language proficiency test like the TOEFL is a requirement by all universities abroad. Students will need to take the TOEFL (or a test like TOEFL; example: IELTS) to get admission. The TOEFL is especially popular among universities in the USA and Canada.

How important is a good TOEFL score?

While the score needed in TOEFL depends on the university, securing 100 or more out of 120 will give students access to most programs. Sometimes, universities might also have section wise cut offs – so students need to be careful about this.

What the TOEFL tests?

The goal of the TOEFL is to check if students are capable of communicating with classmates and completing coursework effectively in English at the university level. Thus, the TOEFL tests four skills in English: Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking.

A. If you take the TOEFL more than once, then the best score for each section from each attempt will be combined to calculate the total final score.
